RiverRock Critters - About the Artist

Welcome to the RiverRock Critters Website!

Pauline Libutti

My name is Pauline Libutti and I began my fun project called "RiverRock Critters" in June 2007 in Arizona. In the past, I painted many ceramic figurines in between, working, and taking care of my family. It was my relax time to zone out from the world and create and beautify my surroundings.

Well, I am now retired, and loving it!

Since I am a California girl for over 60 years, I was never exposed to the Rock Art Painting that has now become my passion. In Arizona, I am surrounded by Rocks and down at the Colorado River there is an abundance of characters waiting to come alive.

Have you ever gazed up at the sky and tried to see what the shapes of the clouds look like? Their forms are unique, but simple, intricate and full of interesting possibilities. Rock hunting gives me a chance to use my creative imagination, and to see what transforms on to the rock after applying a little paint.

I started simple by painting a ladybug, which is attractive, placed near a planter. You can really paint anything you wish on a rock that can be drawn on. It's also fun if the rock actually contours to the subject being painted. My first projects were small rocks which I call “ITTY BITTIES”, and then I graduated to painting dogs, birds, flower, bee’s, animals, symbols, etc.

Now my greatest gratification is the whole rock as the body of my subject. It's all fun and quite rewarding since I could never even draw stick people before.

These rocks also symbolize a meaning, and intention in stone. Stones and Rocks have played a role in spirituality from the very moment humanity externalized its sacred vision. People gave form to their devotion by scratching images of their deities into rock faces, carving holy statuary, and building stone shrines.

Following in the footsteps of this ancient tradition provides us with a simple and beautiful way to externalize our own spirituality. The mere act of choosing a RiverRock Critter can inspire mindfulness, as we lose ourselves in the moment seeking a rock that speaks to our souls.

Take a look at my sight and see which RiverRock Critter speaks to you! They are the perfect treasure to place in your garden, home, or purchased as a gift for a special person in your life.

Happy Rockin!
